U.S. Solar Installations Break Records in 2016
December 14, 2016
Solar reached new heights in the third quarter of 2016, showing record installation. According to GTM Research and the Solar Energy Industries Association’s Q4 2016 U.S. Solar Market Insight report, 4,143 megawatts of solar PV were installed in July, August and September of this year.
The record-breaking quarter is largely due to utility-scale solar, which represented 77 percent of the installed capacity. It only took an average of 32 minutes for one megawatt of solar to come online during the quarter.
According to the report, the installed 4,143 MWdc of solar PV in the quarter was an increase of 99% over Q2 2016 and 191% over Q3 2015.
