Two seminars have been registered with NCQLP for LEU Credit for Lighting Certified (LC) professionals.
The Iowa Energy Center is pleased to announce the September 11-12, 2013 lighting seminars. Registration is available for either day or both days at a discounted price. Online registration is now open. These seminars will be taught by internationally known lighting expert, Stan Walerczyk of Lighting Wizards. Mr. Walerczyk has 25 years of experience in the lighting industry including distribution, maintenance, retrofit contracting, luminaire design, consultation, third party review, energy efficiency regulations, and research. Mike Lambert, senior lighting designer for KCL Engineering, will provide assistance to the Hands-on Lighting, Auditing, and Retrofitting seminar.

The concept of basic, mid, and high grade retrofit options will be discussed. Participants will personally inspect and evaluate several lighting systems. Attendees will be divided into groups to design a lighting retrofit solution after they get input from a ‘facility manager’ and ‘office workers’. The ‘owners’ will judge the solutions on lighting quality, energy savings, power density, hard and soft savings, cost, financial return, etc. Attendees will get a sense that lighting is more than just a commodity. Mike Lambert, senior lighting designer for KCL Engineering, will provide assistance. A reading assignment will be required before the training. A course outline is available. Earn 8 Professional Development Hours (PDH).

High bays, hooded industrials, strips, troffers, and even some specialized exterior lights commonly used in industrial and warehouse applications will be discussed. Pros and cons of high lumen full and reduced wattage T8s, full and reduced wattage T8s, T5HOs, T8VHOs, electronically ballasted ceramic metal halide, induction, plasma, and LED will be explained. Wet location, explosion proof, and other concerns will be discussed. Wired and wireless controls will be included.
How to retrofit or replace other lighting fixtures in industrial and warehouse settings with high performance fluorescent, electronically ballasted ceramic metal halide, and LED will be discussed. These include hooded industrials, strips, vapor-tites, troffers, wraps, and exterior fixtures. Detailed information on why LED T8s should not be used will be provided. New information on spectrally enhanced lighting, especially the IES TM-24-13, will be covered. Some farm applications will be included. A course outline is available. FREE Seminar/Webinar: Residential Lighting for Home Owners & Renters

If you don’t like paying high electric costs for incandescent light bulbs or don’t like compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), attend this presentation in person or via webinar. The federal government has eliminated some common incandescent light bulbs but newer CFLs have improved. Benefits of LED products and technology such as controls through mobile phone apps, color, dimming, and positive effects on productivity and mood will be reviewed. Find out which has more mercury, a CFL or a can of tuna, and learn how to recycle CFLs.
