Energy from Nature and Educational Resources for Green Youth will be a two-day workshop to facilitate the incorporation of environmental science and energy education into the school curriculum. The workshop will use an interdisciplinary approach of teaching and will emphasize using science inquiry tools to examine local energy issues, related environmental impacts, and stewardship. Participants will attend sessions that focus on energy use, energy efficiency, and the potential impacts on the environment. The workshop will primarily focus on resources and current practices.

 Day One – July 15, 2013

ATEEC Interactive Learning Lab at 201 N. Harrison Street, Davenport, IA

8:00 am – 6:00 pm

  • Energy Basics: Quantifying Work, Power, Energy, Electricity
  • Photovoltaic Experiments
  • Blade Design & Power Output Applications with Wind Turbines

Day Two – July 16, 2013

Nahant March at 4220 Wapello Ave, Davenport, IA

8:00 am – 6:00 pm

  • How Does Energy Affect Wildlife?
  • What is a Wind Turbine’s Risk to Birds?
  • Can We Reduce the Risk to Bats?
  • Where Do You Put a Wind Farm?

$150.00 stipend (Iowa teachers only)

1 graduate credit or 1 relicensure credit for Illinois and Iowa teachers
