Iowa Economic Development is hosting a free Community Efficient and Renewable Energy Workshop at the American Legion in West Union, Iowa from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on August 27, 2013.

At the event, you will be able to learn about: 

  • West Union’s downtown district geothermal system connected to nearly 60 buildings
  • Farmers Electric Cooperative’s innovative solar projects around Frytown, IA
  • Iowa community wind projects
  • A net-zero energy housing development project in Charles City
  • Dubuque’s parcel-by-parcel renewable energy asset map
  • The technical and financial benefits to partnering for LED street lights
  • Four Iowa communities who recently competed to reduce community electricity use
  • The Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities whole town audit project

Some of the topics covered include: 

  • Project development process, how to put a project together
  • Examples of types of local systems, capacity, location, how the systems work
  • Securing system users, building the business case building-by-building
  • System operations and maintenance
  • Risk mitigation, policies, rate structure, governance structure, ownership
  • Partnering for results
  • Project funding, cost and revenue information
