Biorenewables Research at ISU Part of New Manufacturing USA Institute
January 18, 2017
Last month, the Department of Energy announced that the U.S.’s 10th Manufacturing USA Institute will make use of Iowa State University’s biorenewables expertise. Dedicated to work in chemical manufacturing, the Rapid Advancement in Process Intensification Deployment Institute (RAPID) hopes to improve productivity and efficiency in the field.
ISU researchers will manage the project’s biorefinery efforts, led by Robert C. Brown, director of ISU’s Bioeconomy Institute. The DOE proposal includes $8 million to support development and testing for biorefineries.
The project was also the recipient of a matching grant from the Iowa Energy Center for work in anaerobic digestion and pyrolysis-based production systems.
