What programs are available for weatherizing my home?

If you believe it is too costly for your household to implement a weatherization system for your home, there is a federal grant program for low-income residents. If you qualify, weatherization service providers will install energy efficiency measures for your home at no charge. State action agencies administer the program under the direction of the U.S. Department of Energy.

Trained crews and contractors install permanent weatherization plans, including:

  • Insulation
  • Air leak reduction
  • Furnace repair/replacement (in non-emergency cases)
  • Energy audit
  • Energy education

If you qualify, the Iowa’s Weatherization Assistance Program can service your household, while also reducing certain health and safety problems in your home. The program maintains affordable housing for households that qualify as low-income and reduces utility rates overall.

Visit the U.S. Department of Energy for more information about the Weatherization Assistance Program available in the U.S.
