How much energy is consumed in the manufacture and construction of a wind tower and how much energy will the same unit produce over its expected life?

The amount of energy required to construct and erect a wind turbine will vary considerably depending on the type, size, tower height and site location relative to the manufacturing facility. The energy generated by the wind turbine is also highly variable based on the tower height, local site conditions and the wind resource at the site. Studies have shown that at very good wind sites, a wind turbine may generate up to 80 times the energy required to manufacture and erect the turbine over its 25 year life.
