Norman Olson has been a project manager for the Iowa Energy Center since 1992. Mr. Olson developed the concept and led the implementation of the Energy Center’s two research facilities: the Energy Resource Station in Ankeny, Iowa and the Biomass Energy Conversion (BECON) Facility in Nevada, Iowa. Mr. Olson manages the activities at BECON and coordinates the Energy Center’s biomass to chemicals and energy portfolio of projects.
Mr. Haman is a registered professional engineer in the States of Iowa and Wisconsin. He earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from the University of Iowa and a Master of Science in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University. Mr. Haman has over 30 years of engineering experience in both the public and private sectors. Mr. Haman’s career began with ten years of service at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers where he served as a design engineer and team lead for the mechanical/electrical section. Mr. Haman left the Corps of Engineers for a facility engineer position at the University of Iowa’s Physical Plant before joining Mead & Hunt Consulting Engineers where he served as a senior design engineer/project manager. Mr. Haman joined the Iowa Energy Center in 1995 where he has served as the industrial programs manager. Mr. Haman additionally assumed responsibilities for managing the Iowa Energy Center’s Alternate Energy Revolving Loan Program in 1996.
Dr. Xiaohui (Joe) Zhou has been with the Iowa Energy Center since 2002. He has over 17 years of work and research experience in commercial building HVAC systems and building controls, and served as a design engineer, application engineer, researcher and team leader. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Zhejiang University (China) and a Master of Science from the University of Connecticut, both in electrical engineering with concentrations in controls and automation. He also received his doctorate in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University. Dr. Zhou is actively involved in ASHRAE at local and national levels, and is member of ASHRAE Technical Committee TC 1.4 Control Theory and Application, TC 1.5 Computer Applications, and TC 7.5 Smart Building Systems.
Prior to joining the Energy Center, Dr. Zhou was with Beijing WUTE Automation Engineering & Technologies (Beijing, China), Johnson Controls and I2 Technologies.
