  • University of Iowa adds wind energy certificate

The University of Iowa’s College of Engineering will offer a wind energy certificate for students interested in the principles of wind energy technology.

The coursework is geared toward engineering students, and includes two new spring courses: Wind Turbine Aerodynamics from the mechanical engineering department and Spacial Analysis of Wind Energy from the geography department. The certificate’s coursework also includes courses university-wide for an interdisciplinary approach to wind energy education.

The university has prioritized the wind energy education to reflect the state’s involvement in the wind industry. Iowa has nearly 3,500 job openings in the wind energy arena– a huge opportunity for soon-to-graduate students.

Iowa State University’s College of Engineering also offers a wind energy minor and a wind energy science, engineering, and policy (WESEP) intensive undergraduate research program.
